What is the difference between IB Business Studies HL and SL?

Both HL and SL cover the same five core units. HL students additionally cover investment appraisal, organisational change, and crisis management, and sit Paper 3 — an unseen case study with an extended response. HL requires a higher level of analytical depth. At Improve ME, we run separate sessions for HL and SL so each level receives the focused preparation it needs.

How important is the Internal Assessment in IB Business Studies?

The IA is an individual research project on a real business. It contributes significantly to the final grade, making it one of the most important components of the course. We support students through every stage — from selecting a workable research question through to completing the final submission — ensuring the methodology is sound and business tools are applied correctly.

My child knows the content but keeps scoring 5s. Why?

This is one of the most common issues we see in IB Business Studies. The gap between a 5 and a 7 is almost always about exam technique, not knowledge. IB examiners reward specific skills — applying command terms correctly, using business frameworks in context (not just describing them), and constructing evaluative arguments. We train students on exactly these skills until they become second nature.

When should my child start IB Business Studies tutoring?

Ideally at the start of IB Year 1 so that IA skills and exam technique are built up progressively alongside the syllabus. That said, students who join in Year 2 still make significant progress — particularly with focused past paper and mark scheme work in the months before exams.

Do you cover IB Business Studies and Economics together?

Yes — the same tutor covers both subjects, which is beneficial for students taking both. There is meaningful conceptual overlap between Business Studies and Economics across market structures, demand and supply, and financial analysis. Students find that reinforcing both subjects together improves their performance in each.

Small Groups (Max 6 Students)

All sessions run in small groups of no more than 6 students, with separate sessions structured around HL and SL syllabus content.
