GCSE Further Mathematics
Advanced mathematics for high-achieving students. Studied alongside GCSE Mathematics, Further Maths covers challenging topics and prepares students for A-Level Mathematics.
What is GCSE Further Mathematics?
GCSE Further Mathematics is an additional qualification taken alongside GCSE Mathematics—not a replacement. It is for high-achieving students targeting grade 8–9 in regular Maths, covering more advanced pure maths topics and building a strong foundation for A-Level. Exam boards include AQA (Level 2 Certificate), OCR, and Edexcel.
Who Should Take Further Maths?
Further Mathematics is for students with strong mathematical ability who are achieving or targeting grade 8–9 in GCSE Maths, planning to take A-Level Mathematics, and interested in STEM at A-Level.
- •Students achieving or targeting grade 8–9 in GCSE Maths
- •Planning to take A-Level Mathematics
- •Interested in STEM subjects at A-Level
- •Strong mathematical ability and interest
- •Want to develop deeper mathematical understanding

Assessment Structure
Further Mathematics is assessed in addition to GCSE Mathematics. We support students to manage both qualifications and perform strongly in each.
- Board-dependent structure (e.g. AQA Level 2 FM)
- Written papers covering pure and applied content
- Taken in addition to GCSE Mathematics exams
- Same exam session as GCSE Mathematics
- Extra workload; we help manage both
- Target grades 8–9 in core Maths first
- Past-paper and topic practice
- Bridging to A-Level content
- Small groups, expert tutors
