A-Level Further Mathematics
A-Level Further Mathematics is one of the most demanding and most respected qualifications available at pre-university level. It extends well beyond standard A-Level Maths into complex numbers, matrices, further calculus, polar coordinates, and hyperbolic functions in the Core Pure component, with additional content in Further Statistics, Further Mechanics, or Decision Mathematics depending on the exam board. Top universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, and UCL strongly prefer or require Further Maths for Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, and Computer Science degree programmes. At Improve ME, we are one of the few tutoring centres in Dubai able to offer specialist Further Mathematics tuition across all major exam boards — including the more demanding Edexcel Further Pure 2 and OCR MEI options.
What is A-Level Further Mathematics?
A-Level Further Mathematics is one of the most demanding pre-university qualifications, extending well beyond standard A-Level Maths into Core Pure (complex numbers, matrices, further calculus, polar coordinates, hyperbolic functions, differential equations) and optional components in Further Statistics, Further Mechanics, or Decision Mathematics. Top universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, and UCL strongly prefer or require it for Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, and Computer Science. At Improve ME, we are one of the few Dubai centres offering specialist Further Mathematics tuition across all major exam boards, including Edexcel Further Pure 2 and OCR MEI.

- Networks — critical path analysis, activity networks, float, Gantt charts
- Game theory — zero-sum games, mixed strategies, dominance
Assessment Structure
Four papers: Core Pure Mathematics 1 & 2 (compulsory) plus two applied modules. Each paper 1.5 hours, 75 marks. We focus on synoptic links and university-prep depth.
- 2 papers, 1 hour 30 minutes each — each worth 25% of the A-Level
- Core Pure 1 and Core Pure 2 cover complex numbers, matrices, further algebra and calculus, polar coordinates, hyperbolic functions, differential equations, further vectors
- Mix of short and extended questions; university-level mathematical reasoning required
- 2 optional papers — 1 hour 30 minutes each — each worth 25% of the A-Level
- Options: Further Statistics, Further Mechanics, or Decision Mathematics (board-dependent)
- Edexcel offers Further Pure 1 and 2 as optional components for the most mathematically ambitious students
- Total: 4 papers, all equally weighted at 25%
- OCR MEI offers an additional Further Pure with Technology paper using computer algebra systems
- We tailor preparation to the specific board and option combination

Our A-Level Further Mathematics Teaching Approach
Core Pure Deep Dive
Core Pure is the heart of Further Maths and covers material that many students find genuinely difficult — eigenvalues, complex number loci, second order ODEs. We build understanding from first principles rather than pattern-matching, so students can handle the unfamiliar question styles that Further Maths papers increasingly include.
Option Module Specialisation
We identify which optional modules the student's school or exam board requires — Further Statistics, Further Mechanics, or Decision Maths — and build a tailored programme covering every topic in depth.
University Application Alignment
Many students taking Further Maths are targeting competitive university courses. We help students connect their Further Maths knowledge to their personal statement and ensure their subject knowledge is at the level top universities expect at interview.
Edexcel Further Pure 2 Support
FP2 is one of the most demanding pre-university Maths modules available. We have specialist tutors who can teach this content — a rare capability in Dubai.
