A-Level Business

Excel in data response and essay papers with evaluation, application to context, and synoptic assessment for university.

OVERVIEW

What is A-Level Business?

A-Level Business Studies develops analytical, evaluative, and strategic thinking through the study of how real businesses operate, make decisions, and respond to change. It covers marketing, finance, operations, human resources, and strategic management, combining quantitative calculations with extended evaluative writing. A-Level Business is highly valued by universities for Business, Economics, Management, and Finance degree programmes. In Dubai's international schools, the subject is examined through AQA, Edexcel, and OCR — all of which place significant weight on case study analysis, data interpretation, and the ability to construct and justify a well-reasoned argument. At Improve ME, our Business Studies tutors build the analytical frameworks and evaluation skills that distinguish A and A* candidates.

TEACHING APPROACH

Our A-Level Business Teaching Approach

01

Case Study Analysis Technique

The Paper 3 pre-released case study is one of the most important elements of A-Level Business. We work through the case study in depth, identifying the key business issues, financial data, and strategic context — so students enter the exam with confident, informed answers rather than generic ones.

02

25-Mark Essay Framework

25-mark essays account for a significant proportion of total marks across all three papers and require a specific structure — analysis of both sides, use of evidence and context, and a justified conclusion. We teach and practise this framework until students can produce a high-quality 25-mark response reliably within 35 minutes.

03

Quantitative Skills

A-Level Business includes a significant quantitative component — investment appraisal, ratio analysis, break-even, and financial statement construction. We ensure students are confident with all calculation types and can interpret results in a business context.

04

Evaluation and Judgement

The highest marks in Business Studies are reserved for genuine evaluation — considering context, weighing competing arguments, and drawing justified conclusions. We develop this skill deliberately in every session rather than treating it as something students either have or do not.
